Eulogy from Rich's Ceremony....
Erik:
"Throughout my 4 year friendship with Rich, I
either talked to him on the phone everyday at least twice or had lunch with him.
He always called me "Enrique" for reasons unknown. We have traveled to any
shows, and he has helped me realize so much truth about life.
Back when I first met Rich, through work, I immediately disliked him and was
downright scared of the man, mainly because of his harsh reality based humor and
his hearty chuckle, in fact, he would always answer the phone, "Tony's Pizza, we
deliver". Not to mention the many names he had for me, such as Enrique, Weak
sauce, or whatever happened to pop into his head at the time. It took me about a
month until I got used to him and his "tough love". Together, we had done a lot,
traveled, shared plenty of musical experiences, went to the OTB to bet some
horses, and we loved to watch the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers ...usually lose.
One thing I really learned about Rich was that there was never a gray area. It
was always, (Gesture) "Don't you get it? This is how it is . .!" and this was
always imparted with some of his own colorful language. I honestly believe the
man never lied once in his whole life. His knowledge was always true to the
fact, priceless and one of a kind. I am sure we have all had unique experiences
and conversations with him that we will remember in our own way.
When you met Rich, you either loved him or you disliked him, this is mainly
because he never sugar coated anything. I respected the straight to the point
honesty. That is hard for a lot of people to get used to but, I can tell by the
large turnout here today, that he was loved by many. One thing I will always be
grateful for are the friends he has introduced me to and I hope we remain in
contact through his memory. Through us, his spirit will live on.
Personally, he was the closest thing I've had to a father figure in the past 10
years, and I appreciated everything he has ever done for me. I wish I would have
had the opportunity to tell him myself but, I am sure he's aware of all of our
thoughts and prayers. In closing, I will always remember Rich as the
light-spirited, humorous, brutally honest, music loving, sports fanatic that he
was. I know I speak for everyone here when I say, we will all miss you Rich
-Thank You"
